Information Presentation
Support for transformations between formats – often from one XML format
to another – is an integral part of our information discovery, extraction and presentation process.
We achieve this flexibility through following best practice: we maintain a clear separation between
data and its method of presentation.
Information located using our search engine can be
delivered to the requester - typically a user with a web browser or an interoperating system -
in many different ways. "Wrapper" functionality can be employed to provide support for
protocols such as OAI-PMH,
and syndication standards such as RSS.
Below are just a few examples of how information is
currently delivered to users and to remote systems that interoperate with those developed by Hyperspheric Solutions:
- Complex HTML pages incorporating e-GMS META tags.
- Simple HTML pages suitable for printing.
- Dynamically generated charts and graphs - see Case Study - Milton Keynes Observatory.
- XML documents, e.g. syndication formats such as
RSS and RDF/XML -
see Case Study - National Library for Health.
- Web Parts for Microsoft’s SharePoint technology.
- Web services compatible Microsoft Office 2003.
- CSV files.
- XML documents in OAI-PMH and other formats.
Benefits:
- A broad range of information delivery options opens up new ways of disseminating information.
- Information is not tied to a particular presentation technology allowing its value to be maximised.
